6th grade is a fun year!  Students have a lot of opportunities to participate in academic teams and educational activities.

Meet and Author:  Margaret Peterson Haddix attended a Google Meet with all of the 6th graders and answered various questions about the book, “Among the Hidden.”  Students read the book during 1st semester.

Spell Bowl:  In November, students competed at Northwestern for a Spellbowl.  Students completed this year and got 2nd place.

BizTown: Students are going to be visiting the Junior Achievement of Greater Lafayette BizTown. The admission to the Junior Achievement of Greater Lafayette BizTown was covered by a grant by NIPSCO/NiSource.

Wax Museum:  Students are researching and writing biographies about our leaders of our country, Presidents and 1st Ladies.  After writing an essay, students are going to be creating a speech based off of the biography.  Then, the students are going to act like his or her person in the form of a wax museum.

Math Bowl: A group of students get to compete against other schools. Last year’s team won 1st place! This year’s competition will be in April!

Boats:  All students will create a boat made from recyclable materials and race them at the high school pool.

Roller Coasters: In May, students design and build their own roller coaster.

Science and Industry Museum:  The students are going to be visiting the museum in May.  They will be taking charter buses for the trip to Chicago. PTO was willing to help the students pay for the transportation of this trip.
